President Mahama swears-in EC Boss

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday called on Ghanaians to avoid any kind of misunderstanding that could escalate into intra and inter-party violence.
The avoidance, he said, could be achieved if they eschewed unsavory and unprintable language in the democratic dispensation.
President Mahama made the call when he swore-into office, Mrs Charlotte Osei as the new Electoral Commissioner to replace Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan, who is on retirement.
Mrs Osei, a lawyer with experience in public service management, and institutional reform, also has expertise in corporate law, banking, insurance, project financing and public-private partnership.
The new EC boss holds a Masters in Law (LLM) from the Queen's University, Kingston, Canada and Masters in Business Leadership from the University of South Africa, Pretoria.
She obtained a Degree in Law (LLB) Hons from the University of Ghana in 1992.
President Mahama said she had a daunting task to accomplish, particularly as Mr Afari Gyan had proven himself as a colossus in the past two decades, in terms of elections and electoral systems.
"Despite whatever grievances we as politicians have expressed against him either in government or in opposition, he distinguished himself creditably and contributed immensely to the stability of our democracy,'' he stated.
President Mahama urged Mrs Osei to make maximum use of the Deputy Commissioners and predecessors at the Commission to make useful decisions that would nourish Ghana's democracy.
