The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, left Accra Monday to attend the 25th World Economic Forum on Africa scheduled to take place in Cape Town, South Africa.

On the theme, "Then and now: Reimagining Africa’s future," the three-day forum is expected to bring together regional and global leaders from business, government and civil society to take stock of Africa’s progress over the last 25 years.

Delegates will use the occasion to share insights into the present landscape and identify innovative approaches to accelerate inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Agenda

Mr Amissah-Arthur will, among other functions, engage investors on how to bring together investors and policy makers to discuss the impact of investment approaches that yield strong financial and social returns.

The Vice-President will also participate in a workshop on the theme, “Digital transformation: The future of business in the digital age,” at which top-level leaders from across multiple industries will identify how digital technologies are transforming their organisations.

Participants will explore and assess the impact of digital technologies on business and society and how to navigate the uncertainty brought on by digital transformation.

A session on the topic, “Promoting financial inclusion in Africa,” which Mr Amissah-Arthur will participate in will discuss the opportunities existing in Africa and how to deliver a full range of quality, affordable financial products and services to lower-income individuals and small businesses that are currently excluded from the formal financial system in Africa.

The session will look at how private and public sector institutions collaborate to develop an economically sustainable model for electronic delivery of payments that promote savings and provide recipients with access to a suite of quality and affordable financial services.

Expected speakers

Among the renowned personalities who will address this year’s forum are the UN Secretary-General, Mr Ban Ki-Moon; the President of Guinea, Mr Alpha Conde; a former UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, the President of the European Commission, Mr José Manuel Durão Barroso; former UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde.
