The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has refuted claims that Ghanaians are stuck to the two main political parties in the country, - National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
A senior lecturer of the University of Ghana, Dr Ransford Gyampo, had in a Facebook post suggested that Ghanaians would be in a dilemma in the 2016 elections considering that the two parties have not shown their readiness to win.
He said given the fact that the NDC government does not seem to be governing well, and NPP does not appear to be ready to govern either, the choices facing the nation will be as “between the devil and the deep blue sea.”
But the Policy Advisor of the PPP, William Dowokpor, has disagreed with the claims, arguing, “Dr Gyampo is being dishonest. He is part of the agenda to promote a duopoly in this country”.
He told Infoboxdaily on Tuesday that Dr Gyampo knows too well to make that claim, pointing out that the Presidential Candidate of the PPP, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom came third and a great number of their parliamentary candidates were third in the final count.
“Besides we are fully represented in all the 275 constituencies and districts of the country. Yes we may not have won an election yet. But we offer the most viable alternative to the two parties that Dr Gyampo absolutely agrees have failed this nation over the last three decades'.
“It is time”, Mr Dowokpor, noted, “Ghanaians gave the PPP the opportunity to offer incorruptible leadership that will bring sustainable development and hope to the good people of Ghana.”
Dr. Gyampo who is a political lecturer described as regrettable, the bickering in the NPP, saying the party ought to have provided a credible alternative to the NDC government, “but it appears to have lost its way thanks to internal bickering.”
The NPP is simply not thinking about the dangers of internal bickering to their electoral fortunes. The flag bearer seem desperate for power but for now, the party is not ready for power, period!" he stated.
