#Dumsormuststop: Police give Yvonne Nelson, others green light for ‘Dumsor’ vigil

The Police have given Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson and other celebrities the green light to hold a vigil on May 16.

The actress and some Ghanaian celebrities, including Sarkodie, Yvonne Nelson and DKB, announced their intention to hold the vigil to put pressure on the government to find a solution to the current power crisis.

The vigil is a platform for the celebrities to register their frustrations with the power crisis popularly known as ‘Dumsor’.

Lawyers for Yvonne Nelson and Sarkodie wrote to the Greater Accra regional police to inform them of the vigil the entertainment personalities are planning to hold on the date.

Ghana’s Public Order Act, 1994, stipulates that any group seeking to organise a public event, be it a vigil, demonstration or concert, must notify the police of their intentions.

The vigil, which will be a peaceful possession by the celebrities and their fans with lit candles, torches, and lanterns, is an offshoot of a social media campaign #‎dumsormuststop that the actress started last week.

The Police, after a meeting with the actress and her lawyers, have agreed to provide security for the vigil which is expected to attract several other celebrities and their fans.

Yvonne after the meeting posted on her Instagram page, “Meeting with the Regional Police Commander done, join us on the 16th! A peaceful and calm vigil. Our voices need to be heard.”
