STC passengers get GH¢2,000 insurance cover

SIC Life Trust Finance Limited(SICLifeTFL)and Intercity STC have entered into a partnership deal that will see each passenger on STC buses enjoy an insurance cover to the tune of GH¢2,000.
This is the first wholesale insurance protection cover to be provided for passengers on a public transport system,as STC bids to onceagain become the safest and most reliable transport firm in the country.
The insurance policy cover also comes just a couple weeks after a gory accident involving an Intercity STC bus and an articulated truck on the Tema-Aflao highway that claimed about 18 lives.
The board chairman of SICLifeTFL, Aaron IssaAnafuresaid: “It is interesting to know that with today’s first step in this partnership, not only is SICLifeTFL financing these buses but SIC Life Insurance will be insuring not just the lives of staff that work on the buses on a daily basis, but also lives of the many Ghanaians that continue to trust the safety and reliability of the reinvigorated STC service,” he said.
This was made known on Monday when SICLifeTFLpresented a number of buses to Intercity STC in a bid to revamp its operations.
Speaking at the presentation, Richard Appietu, Managing Director of SICLifeRFL -- the financier of the buses -- said its partnership with STC presents an unrivalled opportunity to own the transportation landscape and return the company to its former days of reliability and profit.
He said the partnership will in the long run contribute to the nation’sdevelopment.
“What we are witnessing here is a perfect example of Ghanaian businesses leveraging on local strengths and opportunities to build lasting synergies that will in the long run see development of this country,” he said.
He pledged the commitment of SICLifeTFL to supporting STC become a market leader in the transportation industry.
Samuel NuamahDonkoh, the Managing Director of intercity STC, expressed his appreciation to SICLifeTFL for its partnership after the difficulty he went through seeking financiers in a bid to revamp the company.
He assured SICLifeTFL of his commitment to ensuringSTC continues to operate with its core values of safety, reliability and comfortability in commuting passengers to their destination.
He said the company recently took about 65 drivers through a theory school to enable itselect those most qualified to drive STC buses. However, after the exercise only 16 drivers met the standards of STC.
Mr. Donkor said that STC is in the process of establishing a clinic where drivers will go through checks before sitting behind the steering wheel.
