Ayew eyes England: Marseille star keen on Premier League switch

Ghana star Andre Ayew admits that it would be an ‘honour’ to move to the Premier League, before revealing that he is a Liverpool fan since childhood.

The 25-year-old forward has been linked with clubs across Europe, with departure from Marseille this summer looking increasingly likely.

Ayew has confirmed that clubs have been in contact regarding a summer swoop but, while he refused to reveal their identities, he did hint that a move to the Premier League would be his preference.

“All my life I have been a Liverpool fan,” Ayew told Sky Sports. "When I was young I was watching the Liverpool games.

“Steven Gerrard is my favourite player. It will not be easy to see him leave in the summer, but we all need a new challenge.”

“I have had a lot of different offers from different countries, but I will have to discuss with Marseille,” he continued.

“I will make a decision soon, and look at the offers that are coming in and decide what is best for my future.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world today, and it would be an honour play there.

“I talk to a lot with my friends who have played there. Samuel Eto’o, Alex Song, Samir Nasri, Joey Barton have all given me great advice about the Premier League.

“I am still in contract with Marseille, so I cannot give names of clubs, but there has been contact.”

Player Ratings: Liverpool v Newcastle United

Ayew came close to joining QPR in January, but admits that joining the West London club was ‘not the right move’ for him.

“It is true there were talks (with QPR),” he added. “But at the time it was not the right move for me and Marseille, which is important too.

“Nothing could be agreed so we moved on.”
