Mahama to launch job summit next week

President John Dramani Mahama will launch a national job summit next week in Accra.
The summit is aimed at finding urgent solutions to the growing unemployment situation among the youth which has been described as a threat to global security.
The summit which will be under the theme “inclusive growth through the creation of productive employment and decent work for all Ghanaians,” is expected to be attended by about 1,500 participants from all sectors of the economy and academia.
Addressing the media ahead of the summit Deputy Employment and Labour Relations Minister Baba Jamal said the summit will fashion out the best ways to provide sustainable jobs for Ghanaians.
“This national job summit seeks to engage the relevant stakeholders, think tanks and social partners on the avenues on job creation on the all sectors of the economy and also share knowledge and best practices on job creation at the national, regional and international level.
It will also bring together experts in various industries and give the opportunity to some key businesses to exhibit their sustainable business ideas in job creation. It will focus the attention on the problem of unemployment.”
Various groups and individuals have bemoaned the increasing rate of unemployment in the country.
The devastating effects of the current economic and energy crisis have caused hundreds of job losses while thousands more will be loss by the end of 2015, according to the Industrial and Commercial Worker Union.
The Association of Ghana Industries and the Private Enterprise Federation have also said many businesses have collapsed in the last few year.
