A newly built police station has been inaugurated at Trede, in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District, with a call on Ghanaians to have the courage to report crime.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Commander, said people should not be afraid to expose criminals to help bring them to justice.

He said everybody must accept to contribute to the fight to bring down crime in society.

The police station was constructed by the chiefs and people in the community through self-help.

The event was also used to outdoor an 18-member Neighbourhood Watchdog Committee.

DCOP Boakye said the police would go after those who have chosen to live outside the law, and encouraged the community to provide them with useful leads.

He reiterated the promise to protect the identity of informants.

DCOP Boakye praised the chiefs and people in the Region for the support given to the police by way of provision of police stations and other logistics for effective operations.

The inauguration of the Trede station brings to five, the number of new police stations built within a space of about one year.

He used the occasion to caution members of the Neighbourhood Watchdog Committee against manhandling of people suspected to have committed crime, and told them to hand over any such suspect to the police for thorough investigation.

Nana Adwubi Kete III, the Queenmother of the town, said apart from the structure for the police station, the community had also provided residential accommodation for officers posted there.

She was confident that the presence of the police would become a disincentive to crime in the area.
