The captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, reportedly left the senior national team’s camp in Kumasi barely an hour before their African Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda.

The player has since rejoined the squad for the warm-up ahead of the game .

According to Citi FM’s Sports Editor Gary Al-Smith, Gyan left for the police station to post bail for his detained elder brother, Baffour Gyan.

Baffour was arrested on Saturday at the Golden Tulip Hotel after allegedly leading an attack on a journalist on Friday evening and has since been detained at the Central Police Station.

Gary Al-Smith reports that the journalist, understood to be Daniel Kenu of the Daily Graphic, asked the Black Stars captain at a press conference on Friday: “Rumour says you used Castro [Gyan's missing friend & popular musician] as a sacrifice to get richer. What do you say?”

The question was apparently not well received by Gyan, who is alleged to have sent some thugs, led by his brother, to assault Mr. Kenu.

The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has already condemned the alleged assault, saying in a statement signed by the president of the Association that the “GJA would like to remind the family of Gyan to stop thinking that their so called popularity in football could clothe them with authority to treat journalists with contempt,”

Gyan was named in Coach Kwesi Appiah’s starting line-up to face Uganda.

Ghana XI v UGA: F. Dauda, H. Afful, J. Schlupp, J. Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Rabiu, K. Asamoah, C. Atsu, A. Ayew, A. Gyan, M. Waris.
